PASCALE CARAYON RECEIVES THE JOHN M. EISENBERG PATIENT SAFETY QUALITY AWARD
Pascale Carayon was honored for her passion and far-reaching impact on patient care. She has advanced the field of patient safety and quality using human factors engineering (HFE) concepts and methods, and the Systems Engineering Initiative for Patient Safety (SEIPS) model that grew out of HFE. Through her vision, research and work, Carayon has significantly enhanced the body of knowledge underlying innovative approaches to patient safety and improved patient safety efforts. She has also mentored new leaders in this arena both nationally and internationally.
PASCALE CARAYON PARTICIPATES IN NPSF PANEL REVIEWING STATE OF PATIENT SAFETY
A multidisciplinary panel organized by the National Patient Safety Foundation and led by Dr. Donald Berwick reviewed the state of patient safety 15 years after the IOM report “To Err is Human”. A report of the panel’s recommendations was released in early December.

2015 SEIPS SHORT COURSE A SUCCESS
The SEIPS Short Course on Human Factors Engineering and Patient Safety, held July 13-17, 2015, drew 45 healthcare professionals from around the world. Attendees included health IT vendors, clinicians and administrators as well as patient safety, risk management and quality improvement personnel.
